The Beginning - sketches

Whenever I start a piece I make a quick sketch of my idea in photoshop. I thought I would share some of those sketches. These are done somewhat quickly to block in composition. After this I'll do a little more detailed drawing to clean up the line work then try to work out where I want to use books and where I want to use cut paper and then I will work on color.

This first one is the roughest of the sketches I had a copy of. This is what most of them looks like at first. Very rough and sketchy to work out shapes and composition.

These next ones I have cleaned up the line work a little bit more. There are certain themes or elements that I like a lot. Those are birds, trees, and grave yards so you will see those in many of my pieces.

I've always had a thing for gnarled up trees either losing their leaves or void of them.

Vigil Nights - 2011

My studio, Vigil Games, put on a wonderful art show this year showcasing the talent of the my fellow co-workers. It was a great night! The Art Department in downtown Austin volunteered us their space and we packed the place the whole night. I had some of my work on display.

A big thanks goes out to all of those involved in putting the show together!

The Foes

Over the past year I've been busy creating physical version of my work below. Here are some that I've made.

New Project

I've decided to take up a new art project. I haven't been able to get into straight up drawing, and I wanted to get away from art that was purely digital so I decided I wanted to make some stuff with physical medias. But, since I've became addicted to 'ctrl+z' I had to make mock-ups of what I wanted to do in photoshop first.

I'm calling these pieces "The Foes". I got the name from a little logo I created for a friend for a now defunct band called "The Friendly Foes". This is what I made for him.

I liked the idea of it, so I decided to expand on it and create some actual stuff from it. Well, sort of, I made digital fakes of what I want to actually make, and here are those digital fakes!

They are in varying stages of 'completeness', I mostly wanted to get some done enough so I had a clear vision of what I will actually make.

Then and Now meme

A friend of mine suggested that I make a drawing of myself as a teen and a drawing of myself now with notes attached. So, I did. This was a popular internet meme a few years ago. I'm only slightly late to the pary.
